The same, unfortunately, cannot be said about Bethesda Softworks' latest immersive RPG: Oblivion. One GPU generation later and the worries about performance under Doom 3 and Half Life 2 were yesterday's news. Much to our surprise, especially given the performance hype that had preceeded both of them, both games ran relatively well on most mainstream hardware that was available at the time. NWN2 is out now!! its not as good as i thought but kicks Obliviooons arse anyday.When both Doom 3 and Half Life 2 came out we burned the midnight oil trying to put together guides for CPU and GPU performance in the games as soon as they were released.

That is because Bethesda is a cheap-arse company that spends all its money on promotion and making crappy movie tie-ins. ever1 that worked on this game were the bottom scrapers of the industry. oblivion makes use of innovations like antialiasing and ASF and thats it. Decade old games like Mario or Zelda have more interesting and for the most part better graphics than oblivion. there is absolutely NOTHING inspiring or captivating about them at all. second, the artists are hired from some shitty mental insitution where they have daily art lessons. its almost as if the developers mixed up their own spit and vomit and used that as inspiration. i just want to tear the screen apart when I see them. its almost as if the developers mixed up their the graphics are drab, unbearable shit. Overall, the game is great, but the many glitches and laziness of the game is there too.
Some potions found in the game have hardly any reason to exist, because potions like "Restore 1 Luck Point" is beyond trivial.
The dialogue between NPC's is as bad as a Tommy Wiseau movie. The sneaking is done well, but can be very unpredictable and frustrating because you can still be detected no matter how quiet or far away you were. Some NPC's will change the pitch of their voice out of nowhere.
The level up system is pretty bad, but tolerable. The time-freezing when talking to NPC's is very stupid and sucks away the atmosphere. On the other hand, some parts of the game seem insanely rushed and unpolished. On one hand, the storytelling, character development, spells and variety of weapons/skills/potions are all done with brilliance. My review might be a bit judgement-clouded because I've played Skyrim and waited too long to do a review on this game.
